Abstract

This study aims to improve students' literacy culture through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Indonesian language learning in grade IV of SDI Wehasan in the 2024/2025 academic year. Low interest in reading, lack of student involvement in literacy activities, and limited ability to understand and process information are the background of this study. The study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method which was implemented in two cycles. Each cycle includes the planning stage, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 14 students, namely 6 male students and 8 female students. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis was carried out descriptively quantitatively and qualitatively. Indicators of literacy culture observed included reading activity, reading comprehension ability, participation in discussions, and the ability to express opinions based on the information obtained. The results showed that the application of the PBL model can significantly improve students' literacy culture. The percentage of student literacy activity increased from 78.57% in cycle I to 92.85% in cycle II. Furthermore, students appeared more enthusiastic about reading, more active in discussions, and able to relate the information they obtained to the given problems. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning model has proven effective in improving students' literacy skills in Indonesian language learning in elementary schools.
