Abstract

Verbal aggressiveness is a common behavior found in young adults, however, research specifically examiing interventions to reduce this behavior in this population remains limited. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of reinforcement-based self-monitoring training in reducing verbal aggressiveness in young adults. The methods used was an experimental approach with a Single Subject Design (SSD) A-B-A, consisting of a baseline phase (A1), an intervention phase (B), and a final baseline phase (A2). The research subject was a 21 year old female young adult who demonstrated a tendency toward verbal aggressiveness in daily social interactions. Data were collected through behavioral observation and a verbal aggressiveness checklist. The results indicated a decrease in the frequency of verbal aggressiveness from the A1 phase to the B phase, and this reduction tended to persist during the A2 phase even after external reinforcement had been withdrawn. These findings suggest that reinforcement-based self-monitoring training is effective in building the subject’s self-awareness and self-regulation capacity, thereby enabling a sustained reduction in verbal aggressive behavior.
