The phenomenon of virtual pesantren has emerged as a response to advances in information and communication technology and the growing need for flexible Islamic education. This study aims to analyze the transformation of virtual pesantren in promoting learning innovation and developing students' critical thinking skills while maintaining the values of adab and religious scholarly authority. The study employs a qualitative approach through a narrative literature review. Academic sources were identified through Google Scholar, DOAJ, Crossref, Garuda, Dimensions, and Semantic Scholar and analyzed using qualitative content analysis and thematic synthesis. The findings indicate that virtual pesantren expand access to Islamic education and facilitate innovative learning through synchronous and asynchronous platforms, digital modules, online discussions, reflective activities, and digital portfolios. They also provide opportunities to develop critical thinking through tabayyun, source verification, comparative analysis, and discussion of contemporary Islamic issues. However, challenges remain concerning religious authority, social interaction, character formation, and unequal technological access. This study proposes a hybrid-integrative model combining online learning flexibility with offline mentoring, scholarly authority, adab formation, and critical digital literacy.
