Abstract

The expansion of digital platforms has changed how Muslim consumers access, evaluate, and purchase halal products. This article examines the development of halal consumerism in the digital era, the changing role of religiosity alongside lifestyle and social-identity considerations, and the ethical implications of digital consumption from an Islamic economic perspective. The study employs a qualitative literature-review design. Relevant academic articles, books, institutional reports, and official publications were identified through academic databases and institutional repositories, then screened according to relevance, publication recency, and methodological clarity. Data were analyzed through thematic content analysis by identifying recurring themes, comparing findings, and synthesizing them into an integrated interpretation. The review shows that digitalization expands access to halal information and products, strengthens digital marketing and halal traceability, and creates new opportunities for halal businesses. At the same time, algorithmic promotion, influencer marketing, impulsive purchasing, and paylater facilities can intensify consumption beyond needs. From the perspective of Islamic economics, halal status alone is insufficient to evaluate consumption; decisions should also consider maslahah, wasathiyah, avoidance of israf and tabdzir, and protection of wealth (hifz al-mal). The article argues that halal consumerism can develop consistently with Islamic ethics when digital convenience is accompanied by halal literacy, financial literacy, transparent marketing, and responsible digital-finance governance.
