Israiliyyat is part of the history that originates from the traditions of previous Jews and Christians, which were included in the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an during the time of the Companions and Tabi'in. This discussion caused debate among scholars because many of the stories or narratives were considered to be contrary to the teachings of the Islamic religion. This research is aimed at exploring the meaning of Israiliyyat, the history of the inclusion of Israiliyyat in the interpretation of the Qur'an, the main narrators who narrated Israiliyyat from among the Companions and Tabi'in, as well as the position of Israiliyyat according to the views of previous scholars and modern scholars. Muhammad Husein Adz-Dzahabi explained that Israiliyyat is the influence of Jewish and Christian culture in the interpretation of the Al-Qur'an. Meanwhile, Ibn Kathir and Ibn Taimiyah rejected the Israiliyyat history that was contrary to Islamic teachings. The research results show that although Israiliyyat can help understand certain verses, this history also risks obscuring understanding of the Qur'an. Therefore, selectivity and sharp criticism are very necessary in accepting the Israiliyyat narrations.
